Software Engineer
About the role
Donorlytics is a growing technology company using data and AI to support mission-driven organizations. We build practical tools that help nonprofit teams operate with greater clarity, confidence, and effectiveness. Our environment is calm, supportive, and focused on meaningful work built with modern technology.
- Early stage, funded, and growing
- AI powered tools built for the nonprofit sector
- Strong reputation with early users and advisors
Role Overview
As a Software Engineer, you will help design, develop, test, and maintain the systems that deliver that value. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional partners to ship reliable product features, strengthen our platform, and support the infrastructure and operational practices that keep us growing responsibly.
This role is a strong fit for someone with 2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience who wants broad ownership, continued learning, and the chance to see their work make a real difference. Familiarity with a specific technology stack is not required.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain services, APIs, and application interfaces that turn nonprofit data into useful product experiences
- Develop and test the data integration and transformation logic behind donor, fundraising, and organizational analytics
- Implement analytic definitions and data quality checks so insights are accurate and incomplete data is handled clearly
- Ship product features end to end, from implementation through testing and pull request review
- Help improve reliability, security, and operational readiness as we scale the platform
- Debug issues, read existing code carefully, and extend systems in a consistent way
- Communicate clearly on progress, blockers, and tradeoffs
- Take on a mix of product work and foundational engineering tasks as priorities shift
- Learn new tools and platforms as needed to get the work done
Who You Are
You have a solid foundation in software engineering and enjoy learning new tools and systems. You take ownership of your work, communicate progress and blockers clearly, and are comfortable working independently with guidance. You value reliable code, thoughtful collaboration, and seeing how your work helps customers.
This Role Is Not For You If
- You want to work only in one language, framework, or part of the product
- You prefer narrowly defined tasks over a mix of product and foundational engineering work
- You are uncomfortable with shifting priorities in a small, growing team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
- 2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals
- Demonstrated ability to learn new languages, frameworks, or platforms quickly
- Comfortable working full-time in a small, fast-moving environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently with guidance
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building backend services or APIs
- Experience with application or frontend development
- Familiarity with relational databases
- Exposure to cloud platforms, containers, or CI/CD
- Interest in security, reliability, or compliance-minded engineering practices
